Officers found the group of kids shooting fireworks from the Loudoun Valley High School practice turf around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, June 25, Purceville police said in a release.

As they approached, the group fled, splitting off in two directions. One of the kids ran so fast, he came flying out of his shoes.

The chase continued until officers found the shoeless teen, sweating profusely and reeking of alcoholic beverage, police said.

The boy denied running from the police, but like the fairy tale of yore, the shoe fit, authorities said. A parent responded to pick up the teen and charges for a curfew violation and underaged possession of alcohol are pending.
